What is Alzheimer's Disease?

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive nervous system disorder that leads to loss of brain cells and their connections. The exact cause of Alzheimer’s is unknown, but scientists believe it is a combination of changes in the brain due to age, genetics, environmental factors, and lifestyle.

As the most common cause of dementia, Alzheimer’s can lead to:

  • Inability to retain new information
  • Memory loss
  • Disorientation or confusion
  • Mood and behavior changes
  • Difficulty with daily activities
