What is Multiple Sclerosis?

Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disorder that affects the central nervous system. The immune system attacks myelin, which protects the nerve fibers in both the brain and spinal cord. The exact cause of MS is unknown, but scientists believe it is a combination of immunology, infectious diseases, environment, and genetics.

The more common symptoms are:

  • Fatigue, weakness
  • Numbness or tingling sensation
  • Vision loss
  • Lack of coordination
  • Sexual, bladder, and bowel problems
