What is a Stroke?

Stroke is an interruption of blood supply to the brain, which prevents transportation of oxygen and nutrients. It could be caused by a blocked artery (ischemic stroke) or a broken blood vessel (hemorrhagic stroke). It is possible for the brain to heal itself, but the stroke can also cause more permanent issues. Rehabilitation can help reduce the severity of such issues.

A stroke can cause different types of disabilities, such as:

  • Movement problems or paralysis
  • Sensory deficits, pain
  • Language impairment
  • Memory, thinking disruption
  • Emotional disturbance
