What is Parkinson's Disease?

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive nervous system disorder which occurs when nerve cells, which are responsible for producing dopamine in the brain, become impaired and/or die. Progression of the disease is different for everyone. The exact cause of PD is unknown, but scientists believe it is related to genetics and environmental factors. .

The four most common symptoms are:

  • Tremor
  • Limb rigidity
  • Bradykinesia (slow movement)
  • Impaired balance and coordination

Other symptoms can include depression, emotional changes, urinary or digestive problems, and sleep disturbances.
