What is Epilepsy?

Epilepsy, also known as “seizure disorder,” is a central nervous system disorder characterized by unprovoked, recurrent seizures. The seizures are caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain. There are many factors, such as brain conditions, strokes, and infectious diseases, that can lead to epilepsy.

During a seizure, an individual can experience:

  • Dizziness, tingling
  • Confusion
  • Staring blankly
  • Involuntary movement
  • Loss of consciousness
